Monica – Portrait

Haven’t blogged in a while. Sorry about that :)

Meet Monica. She’s an old acquaintance, new friend.
Just one for now.

I’ll be back to the blogging more regularly soon. Promise!
Just got a few things taking precedence for the moment :)

MarHar Snowboards Rail Jam – Grand Rapids

My friends over at MarHar Snowboards put on a sweet rail jam right in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids a few weeks ago.
I’m really glad I decided to go for a walk downtown that day :) It was great to stumble on this event!

Go check out MarHar Snowboards!  Everything is hand made right here in Grand Rapids.
Big thanks to Parx by Jon T  for the sweet setup right in Rosa Parks Circle :)

Nice shots James, and thanks for the shout out!

Allison and Kyle – Grand Rapids Engagement

I’ve been really looking forward to this shoot. Michigan weather has been as unpredictable as ever, so we’ve been waiting for a while for the perfect time.

You see, Allison and Kyle are true Michiganders. They don’t complain about the snow. They make the best of it!
Good thing too, because it really started coming down during the shoot!

These guys love to have fun. It’s written all over their relationship. Even just the way they look at each other…making goofy faces and all. they have fun together.
That speaks volumes about them as individuals. Life, easy or hard is always better when you can just relax and enjoy it with someone you love.
They have that.

That’s why I am excited about the wedding. That’s why I’m excited about them! :)

Oh and in case you were wondering, all of the snow you see in these pictures has melted. Michigan is really weird this year :)

Jen and Kyle – Grand Rapids Engagement

It was really windy and snowing like crazy.
And that’s only like 1/100th of the reason I loved working with Jen and Kyle.

Jen, Kyle, and I went out for a quick bite to eat after the shoot. We spent a good amount of time catching up, talking about life.
It always refreshing to talk to old friends who have very similar passions. It makes hanging out after months feel like just another day of friendship.

I wish you could have been there to see it. It hit me after we all left for the night…Jen and Kyle are perfect for each other. It really seemed like just a normal conversation about the future, passions for God’s work, heart breaking social injustice and glimpses of hope and joy. As I was driving away, I realized the conversation was pointing very clearly to how Jen and Kyle’s hearts both long for the same justice to be seen. They both have a passion to see the work of God’s kingdom here on earth. They both realize that there’s something more that they’ve been called to. It was easy to see after thinking about it. God’s got big plans for those two.

The shoot was so much fun. We spent probably half the time brushing snow off of Kyle’s back and ducking in and out of the children’s museum to warm up. Honestly, it just felt like we were in a giant snow globe :)
Beyond that though, the time we spent together was refreshing. It was just really good to see how much love flows in their relationship. Love for each other and love for God.

With that, here’s a little bit of our snow globe adventure :)

There should be more pictures of Jen and less of Kyle. He isn’t very photogenic.

Love,

Be encouraged, James: you are a VERY good photographer! =)

Tara and Jon – Grand Rapids Wedding

The first time I spent time with Tara and Jon as a couple was during their engagement session. It blew me away how well they fit together. We went out for a bite to eat afterwards, and with no scripting, they both pretended to go into the opposite bathrooms. At first it made sense to poke fun at them for it…but even that little joke shows how well they fit together!
That’s what I love about these two. Anyone else that looks at their relationship would argue that it is spectacular in so many ways. I agree. The way they joke and laugh, the way he just adores her, the way they love others…it just flows from them.
And all of these things, as important as they are, they just fade away when you see Tara and Jon talk about their love for God.

It was a snowless January day in Michigan. Everything about the day was perfect.
Thanks for sharing your lives with me Tara and Jon :)
I’m glad we are practically neighbors now!

:)
